Overview
Over the course of three years, I produced hundreds of short-form storytelling animations for Entertainment Weekly, published daily across platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube — often reaching millions of viewers worldwide. These stories covered celebrity news, red carpet events, movie releases, TV shows, and pop culture breakdowns, helping EW remain relevant and engaging on a global scale.
Working within the parameters of EW’s brand, the animations were crafted to stand out in crowded social feeds. We leveraged design principles to maintain brand identity while creating visually striking motion:
Contrast: Dark text on light backgrounds (and vice versa) paired with vibrant color palettes.
Hierarchy: A distinct typeface with over 32 styles; bold, oversized headlines paired with smaller subtext.
Repetition: Consistent use of animations and elements to reinforce brand recognition.
Emphasis: Celebrity photos and key imagery often dominate the frame, creating clear focal points.
By translating EW’s editorial voice into motion, the animations felt fresh, timely, and distinctly on-brand, helping the publication connect with audiences in fast-moving digital spaces.
